New Muscat and Salalah terminals to meet strong passenger growth

Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) is experiencing strong growth at its airports. Muscat International Airport saw throughput reach a record 7.5 million passengers in 2012 – a +16% increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, Salalah Airport – a growing tourist destination – handled more than 600,000 passengers, representing a rise of +23% on the previous year. New terminal developments at both airports are set to enhance the passenger experience. Callum Tennent spoke with Vic Allen, Acting CEO, OAMC.

Dubai International opens dedicated A380 concourse

Dubai’s aviation model has been instrumental in driving Dubai International Airport’s phenomenal growth. A liberalised aviation policy, supportive government and coordinated approach means Dubai Airports is able to react quickly to the marketplace. Significantly, Concourse A – the world’s first purpose-built A380 facility – was recently opened, and further developments are underway. Callum Tennent reports.

Brussels prepares for long-haul growth

In December 2009, Brussels Airport’s home carrier Brussels Airlines went from being an unaligned airline without a clear future to becoming a fully-fledged member of Star Alliance. Overnight, Belgium’s capital airport had become a Star Alliance hub with the future set on growth. Although Brussels is located in a competitive part of Europe, the airport can now exploit its location as the westernmost Star Alliance hub in the core of Europe, located between the two SkyTeam hubs in Amsterdam and Paris, by attracting Star Alliance airlines. European airports’ annual get together – the 22nd ACI EUROPE Annual Assembly, Congress & Exhibition – this year hosted by Aena Aeropuertos, took place in Madrid from 20 to 22 June. The central theme ‘Putting the passenger first’ saw a lot of airport companies and CEOs reveal how passionate they have become about meeting and surpassing the passenger’s expectations.
