Work has commenced on the expansion of Riga International Airport’s passenger terminal. The first level of construction provides the expansion of the non-Schengen area, and four additional boarding sectors, to enhance the quality of the airport’s services. It will also increase the airport’s capacity by allowing its to handle bigger aircraft.
The development provides much-needed additional capacity. The terminal currently serves 4.7 million passengers per year, despite only being designed to handle 3.5 million. It’s forecast that the airport’s throughput will exceed five million
The expansion will also improve the competitiveness of Riga International Airport and stimulate traffic development, facilitating the attraction of new airlines and facilitating expanded services from existing carriers.
