Dubai Duty Free officially launched the ‘Year of the Rooster’ with an exclusive Chinese-themed celebration in Terminal 3 – Concourse B and Concourse C (Control Tower) of Dubai International Airport. The celebration was well-attended by Dubai Duty Free management and staff headed by the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Colm McLoughlin, along with some invited guests from the Chinese Consulate in Dubai, including Consul General Ms Lingbing Li and Vice Consul General Xuliang Ma, UnionPay representatives and Chinese media.
To commence the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year celebration, a traditional Lion Dance performance welcomed the guests in Concourse B before heading towards Concourse C (Control Tower) with the DDF group and guests for the ceremonial ribbon and cake cutting.
McLoughlin commented on the Chinese New Year initiative: “We are delighted to be joined by the Chinese Consul General, Ms Lingbing Li, Vice Consul General Xuliang Ma and Commercial Counselor Mr Lei Jin, as well as guests from UnionPay and the media to launch the celebration for the Chinese New Year. This is the most significant festival on the Chinese calendar and celebrated not only in China but around the world.”
“China is a very important market for Dubai Duty Free and every year we try to come up with innovative promotions and activities to provide our Chinese customers with a memorable shopping experience during this festive period,” he added.
Consul General Ms Lingbing Li said: “We are delighted to join Dubai Duty Free in celebrating the Chinese New Year at Dubai International Airport. Chinese New Year remains one of the most important occasions for the Chinese and Dubai Duty Free acknowledges the significance of this holiday to its customers through traditional festivities and offering special initiatives.”
As part of the promotional activities over the coming weeks, Dubai Duty Free will launch a “Scratch & Win” Promotion in cooperation with UnionPay International offering customers a chance to win either a ½ ounce 24karat Rooster Gold Coin or Dubai Duty Free gift cards valued from €8 to €28.
Other attractive Chinese-themed promotions were rolled out across Dubai Duty Free in Dubai International Airport at the themed retail areas offering the most popular products for Chinese consumers. Traditional Chinese imagery in red and gold, which signifies good fortune and joy, along with the Rooster emblem were installed to create stunning designs, while some DDF Chinese staff were dressed in traditional costume to add to the authentic atmosphere.
The Chinese New Year launch celebrations included a Millennium Millionaire draw and Finest Surprise draw conducted by the DDF team and the Chinese Consul General and consulate members.
Also present at the celebration was Dubai Duty Free’s Chief Operating Officer Ramesh Cidambi, Executive Vice President-Corporate Services Salah Tahlak, Executive Vice President-Commercial Nic Bruwer and other DDF senior officials, as well as Mr Lei Jin, Commercial Counselor and Mr Xiaopeng Wei, Consular Attaché from the Chinese Consulate.
Dubai Duty Free, which celebrated its 33rd year in December 2016, has more than 5,900 employees comprised of 45 different nationalities including 581 Chinese staff.
