Bristol Airport officially opened its newly refurbished gate and boarding lounge. The boarding gate lounge was opened by special guest and Bristol resident Carol Vorderman. Several of Bristol Airport’s key corporate clients and representatives of the airline bmi regional joined passengers to see the facility open.
The new gate lounge is part of an ongoing infrastructure programme at Bristol Airport. It will provide passengers with a dedicated area to wait for their flights prior to boarding, conveniently situated close to the aircraft steps. It also has a number of practical features aimed primarily at business passengers, including a workstation area, free WiFi access and charging points, hot drinks vending machine, and additional seating.
“The opening of this dedicated gate lounge area is another demonstration of our commitment to the business community in the South West and South Wales. We know many of our customers travel regularly for work and we want to make the experience as comfortable and efficient as we can,” said Jochen Schnadt, Chief Commercial Officer at bmi regional. “Our Bristol customers already benefit from check-in that remains open until 30 minutes prior to departure, and the new departure gates ensure the airport experience is even smoother and more seamless.”
Work will continue on the £24 million (€34m) west terminal extension, which will transform the security and search process and passengers when it opens in summer 2016. It will also create an enlarged baggage reclaim area, custom facilities, arrivals retail, and meet-and-greet area. Once completed, this will take the total investment in infrastructure at Bristol Airport to more than £120 million (€170m) since 2010.
Other developments in the pipeline include car park improvement, and the construction of a Hampton by Hilton 201-room hotel.
