Eng. Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei was appointed CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports in April 2015, and has served as a Board Member of the company since 2012. His initial priorities as CEO have included the ongoing development of the Midfield Terminal Building, which will transform Abu Dhabi International Airport, and the Capacity Enhancement Program at Terminals 1 and 3. He shared his vision with George Walter.
The Abu Dhabi Airports vision is clear – to become the world’s leading airports group, and to play a key role in Abu Dhabi achieving its broader objective of becoming a global transportation hub and destination for increasing numbers of tourists and businesses. To achieve this, the emphasis over the next couple of years is two-fold: To continue offering a consistently excellent service to passengers, and to execute the plan to open the new Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) in Q4 2017.
The man leading this strategy is Eng. Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, who was appointed CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports in April 2015. He has over 20 years of experience in major infrastructure developments, managing multi-billion dollar projects in the aviation and transportation sectors. Prior to joining Abu Dhabi Airports, Al Mazrouei was Chief Executive of Manazel Real Estate PSJC – a leading developer of residential property in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, earlier in his career, he was Projects Director of the General Authority of Health Services, and also held a number of roles in the Directorate of Public Works.
“I am enjoying working with our management team more closely, exceeding all expectations in the development and delivery of the multi-billion capital expenditure programme for our airports, which is a huge responsibility,” Al Mazrouei commented. “The MTB itself is a massive project, requiring every component to be planned in minute detail and executed to the most rigorous industry standards.”
The exterior of the MTB will be finished this year, including the piers’ envelope and glazing, and 2016 will be the year of system integration and fit-out. “The MTB will be the gateway to Abu Dhabi. It plays an important role in raising the profile of the emirate as a world-class travel hub, and enables the diversification of its economy by fostering growth in other industries through increased connectivity,” Al Mazrouei explained.
Abu Dhabi International Airport experienced 20% growth to 20 million passengers in 2014, and the positive trend has continued – the latest available figures for July 2015 show that the airport handled two million travellers in a single month for the first time. Abu Dhabi’s growing economy and increasing attraction for tourists, businesses, and transit passengers, creates the need for the highest quality transport infrastructure. Abu Dhabi International Airport is, of course, central to providing this, and Al Mazrouei is clearly leading an ambitious expansion strategy to satisfy demand and offer the best possible passenger experience.
