On 15 April, representatives of ACI EUROPE, including President Ad Rutten, COO of Schiphol Group and ACI EUROPE Director General Olivier Jankovec, had a meeting with European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas and several members of the Commissioner’s cabinet. During the course of the meeting, Mr Rutten outlined the challenges facing Europe’s airports and the ensuing conversation touched upon a range of subjects from economic regulation and the vital role that airports can play as engines of economic growth, to revision of security measures and the environmental priority.
The meeting also coincided with the very beginning of the volcanic ash crisis – a subject which was also touched upon during the meeting – the first of many conversations between ACI EUROPE and the European Commission in the days that followed.
